ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S)

Building 97, RMIT University
106-108 Victoria St
Carlton VIC, Australia 3053
ADM+S unites universities, industry, government, and communities to promote responsible, ethical, and inclusive automated decision-making.
The centre examines how emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and distributed ledgers, are reshaping essential services across healthcare, transport, media, and social welfare. While automation can enhance personalisation and citizen empowerment, it also introduces new risks of bias, misuse, and malfunction.
By combining expertise across the humanities, social sciences, and technology, ADM+S develops the knowledge and strategies needed to ensure that automated systems serve the public good and strengthen democratic participation.
Institute for Technoscience & Society (ITS) at York University
ITS at York University is a centre for critical, interdisciplinary research on how technoscience shapes and is shaped by social, political, and economic power. It brings together internationally recognised scholars working on the societal implications of scientific claims, medical practices, emerging technologies, and innovation.
ITS is also an Associated Research Unit of Connected Minds, a major seven-year, $105.6M research initiative funded through Canada’s CFREF program.
Technoscience & Society is a scholarly book series edited by PERN member Kean Birch that provides new analytical tools and empirical insights into how emerging technologies, scientific practices, and sociotechnical systems shape contemporary challenges – from AI and data governance to genomics, climate technologies, and ethical innovation.
