PERN was delighted to co-host Beyond Democracy Theater: The Shift from Participation to Worker Power in AI with the Institute for the Cooperative Digital Economy (ICDE) at The New School.
On September 11, over 150 attendees from around the world joined the discussion, co-facilitated by ICDE 25-26 Fellow and PERN member, Linda Huber, and founding director of the Platform Cooperativism Consortium, Trebor Scholz.
The event featured four case studies of different models for workers to exert greater power and control over AI systems, as well as remarks from Dan McQuillan, author of Resisting AI, about the potential structural limitations for worker-powered AI.
