Jake Goldenfein, Associate Professor at Melbourne Law School and PERN member, was recently awarded an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship for his project on shaping regulation of the emerging AI data economy. Congratulations, Jake!
Through empirical and conceptual research, the project—Monetising Data – The Growth and Governance of AI Dataset Markets—expects to produce knowledge about the rules and commercial practices shaping the AI data economy and will propose new data governance principles for datasets. The benefit will be to enable regulation of AI training dataset markets in service of Australian creatives and data workers, and ensure a resilient and sovereign technology sector. The project received over $1M in funding.
